Vatican City, 2023
Tens of thousands of the Catholic faithful joined Pope Francis in Jan. 2023 to bid farewell to Pope Benedict XVI at a rare requiem Mass for a dead pope presided over by a living one. The death of Pope Benedict ended an unprecedented decade for the Catholic Church that was triggered by the German theologian’s decision to retire in 2013.
